Atlassian

Product Design, Facilitation, and Research • 2011 - 2013
Overview
Atlassian makes tools like Jira, Trello, and Confluence, used by thousands of teams worldwide for remote collaboration and work-tracking.

Though Atlassian is based in Sydney, Australia, I was among the first two designers in the San Francisco office, driving multiple design and research efforts across the organization.

My contributions
  • I owned design and research for Marketplace & in-tool plugin manager, enabling third-party partners to develop for Atlassian customers
  • I defined initial patterns for the Design Guidelines to support these partners, including tables and keyboard shortcut specifications
  • I instituted facilitated design as a practice, running workshops to set strategy for larger projects, contributing plays to the Facilitation Playbook
  • I drove cross-team research: founded contextual inquiry program, ran 30+ inquiries and rapid-fire usability testing yearly at Atlassian Summit
